An ornate pierced outer border surrounds a quieter cream-toned inner molding, followed by another delicate band of scrolling decoration immediately surrounding the mirror glass.

The surface is perhaps the most beautiful feature of the piece. The original-style gilt and painted finish has developed extensive craquelure, mellowed coloration, rubbed gilding, and areas of loss, creating the wonderfully timeworn appearance that can only develop with age.

Rather than appearing bright or newly gilded, the frame has softened into an atmospheric palette of antique gold, muted silver-gold, warm cream and aged gray, with traces of brighter gilding emerging along the raised ornament.

The mirror glass also displays age-related spotting and surface character, complementing the wonderfully aged frame.

At approximately 24 × 28 inches, this is an especially versatile antique mirror. It is substantial enough to create a focal point while remaining beautifully scaled for a powder room, bathroom vanity, bedroom, entryway, gallery wall, mantel, or above a small chest or console.

A beautiful piece for a French-inspired, English country, traditional, grandmillennial, Old World, or collected interior.

DETAILS
Antique wall mirror
Early 20th century
Circa 1900–1930, estimated
Wood frame with applied composition ornament, believed
Gilt / antiqued painted finish
Reticulated openwork frame
Rococo / Baroque Revival influence
Acanthus and foliate scroll decoration
Shell-inspired corner ornament
Layered architectural moldings
Beautifully developed craquelure
Naturally distressed antique surface
Aged mirror glass
Maker unknown

DIMENSIONS
Approximately 24" × 28"

CONDITION

This is an antique piece with age-related patina and wear, all of which contribute to its wonderfully timeworn appearance.
