Antique French Rococo Mirror

An elegant late 19th-century Rococo Revival mirror, richly finished in warm, hand-applied gilt and crowned with a dramatic arched crest of scrolling acanthus and shell motifs. Likely crafted in France circa 1880-1890, this piece reflects the refined decorative traditions of the Belle Époque, when classical ornament was softened by romantic proportions and artisanal finishing.

The mirror is constructed with a solid wood core and applied composition ornament, a traditional and high-quality method of the period, lending it exceptional weight and presence. The original gilding has aged beautifully, with subtle wear and hints of underlying bole that add depth, character, and an authentic patina prized by collectors and designers alike.

Its tall, arched silhouette makes it a striking focal point—equally at home above a console, anchoring an entryway, or leaned casually in a bedroom or dressing room. The piece balances ornate European detailing with a warm, restrained elegance that pairs effortlessly with both classic and modern interiors.
