Antique Column Pedestals (Pair)

Antique Neoclassical Ionic Pedestals – Early to Mid-20th Century (likely 1910s to 1930s)

Step back into the era of the Neoclassical Revival with this striking pair of genuine antique architectural pedestals. Dating from the early-to-mid 20th century, these columns were crafted during a time when designers sought to bring the timeless order and symmetry of antiquity into the modern sophisticated home.

The Ionic Order: Elegance in Detail
These pedestals are modeled after the Ionic order, one of the three canonical orders of classical architecture. They feature the signature volutes—the graceful, scroll-like spirals at the capital—which symbolize scholarly wisdom and refined taste. Unlike the simpler Doric style, the Ionic order is celebrated for its slender proportions and delicate ornamentation, making these pieces perfect for an elegant gallery or living space.

Material & Craftsmanship
Glazed Ceramic Plaster: These pieces are finished in a rare off-white glaze over traditional ceramic plaster, a technique favored in the mid-1900s to achieve a luminous, stone-like appearance while remaining manageable for interior styling.

Authentic Patina: Having survived the decades, the glaze has developed a soft, aged character that modern reproductions simply cannot replicate.

Stature: Standing at 30 inches tall, they provide the ideal height for elevating sculptures, heavy botanicals, or ambient lighting.

Styling the Era
In the mid-20th century, these would have been found in high-ceilinged foyers or "sunrooms" paired with velvet upholstery or bronze statuary. Today, they serve as a bridge between the old world and the new—acting as a minimalist sculptural element in a modern loft or a grounding historical piece in a traditional library.
