Antique Chippendale Secretary Desk
One-of-a-kind · Flat-rate U.S. delivery · All sales final
An impressive antique solid mahogany secretary bookcase made by the Colonial Manufacturing Company of Zeeland, Michigan.
Dating to approximately the 1920s–1930s, this beautifully proportioned two-piece secretary reflects the Colonial Revival fascination with early Georgian and Chippendale furniture. The upper bookcase features two glazed doors with geometric mahogany tracery, an elegant pierced broken-arch pediment and a central urn finial. Below, the slant front opens to create a writing surface, while four graduated drawers provide generous storage.
The secretary stands on carved ball-and-claw feet and retains handsome brass batwing-style hardware. A maker’s stamp inside reads “Solid Mahogany — Colonial Mfg. Co.” Dovetailed drawer construction further speaks to the quality of this American-made piece.
With its narrow footprint and abundant vertical storage, this secretary would make a striking home-office desk, living-room bookcase, bedroom writing cabinet or statement piece in a traditional, grandmillennial or collected interior.
