Victorian Tufted Chaise Longue
One-of-a-kind · Flat-rate U.S. delivery · All sales final
An elegant antique Victorian chaise longue, dating to circa 1870, featuring a gracefully curved, hand-carved wood frame and original tufted velvet upholstery in a warm golden ochre tone.
This sculptural piece reflects the refined craftsmanship of the mid-to-late Victorian period, with a serpentine back, rolled arm, and deep button tufting — a form traditionally found in dressing rooms, salons, and private chambers of the era. The silhouette is both architectural and inviting, offering a striking focal point for a bedroom, sitting room, or curated commercial interior.
Please note that this piece likely needs reupholstery on the main seat. We have not tried professionally cleaning, but there is age-related staining of the velvet. The velvet on the back could stay original as it is in very good condition with no callouts to note. We have priced her accordingly lower to account for reupholstery by the buyer. The first photo on this listing is just how it would look after reupholstery for reference.
The chaise retains its original upholstery, displaying beautiful age-appropriate patina prized by collectors. A prior separation along the crest rail has been carefully stabilized using the original wood, following conservation-minded repair practices. Minor wear remains consistent with the age of the piece and contributes to its authentic character.
This is a true 19th-century antique — not a reproduction — and presents beautifully as-is, whether styled in a European-inspired interior, a romantic wedding venue, or an editorial setting.
Details
Circa: 1870
Style: Victorian / Rococo Revival
Origin: Likely English or French
Materials: Hand-carved wood frame; original tufted velvet upholstery
Condition: Structurally sound; original upholstery with age-appropriate wear; crest rail professionally stabilized using original wood. Please note that the main seat area has age-related staining. The back fabric is in very good condition and the top right of the crested arch that you lay on is in good condition with one bare small barespot on the velvet; the main seat would be best to be reupholstered. One other callout is that it is missing one button in the center that could be easily replaced with reupholstery.
Use: Decorative seating, bedroom chaise, dressing room, wedding or photo studio styling
